Staffordshire Community and Learning Partnership

Staffordshire Community and Learning Partnership

Staffordshire Community and Learning Partnership distribute information to parents and local people via a network of local schools and libraries. Traditionally communications take the form of newsletters, posters and letters sent home to parents, usually by the children.

With a growing demand to distribute information more quickly and reliably, the partnership invested in a network of eleven LCD screens to be located at each of the main schools and central library. Initially the intention for information to be in a revolving broadcast mode was met with resistance due to the volume of information to be displayed, making it impractical for parents and passers-by to wait for the information of interest to come around on screen.

Looking at the various options to make screens interactive, including kiosks and touch screen, would mean a huge escalation of capital and on-going service costs. A Canditv solution however meant that screen costs remained minimal without the need for any special touch screen or ruggedized interface. In fact in some schools, existing screens were used to avoid further capital hardware costs altogether. Screens could still be mounted behind glass windows or high up on internal walls out of reach but still perfectly visible. All interaction is via mobile phone with parents able to simply dial a local rate telephone number, use the numbers on their handsets to select from a menu of options the information of interest before hanging up the call which puts the screen back in a revolving broadcast mode.

As the first of its kind in the UK Education sector, screen content is updated centrally online by the local Community and Learning Partnership coordinator, whilst each school also has the ability to update their own content.

York

York

Implemented at York and Leeds railway stations, the Canditv solution compliments existing visitor information services providing an automated 24x7, flexible and money saving alternative to some of the more traditional methods. The solution enables visitors to quickly access information, which is displayed on screens in strategic locations, relating to their visit simply by using their own basic mobile phone just like a TV remote to dial a number on a screen and press the keys on their handset to navigate relevant information options, request to be put through to speak to a representative, make a reservation, offer feedback, or request a call-back. In addition to accommodation options and live availability feeds, visitors can view events, local pubs, restaurants and shops, together with discount offers and passes for the duration of their stay.

Call transfer options automatically connect users to a Visitor Information Centre (VIC) representative during normal business hours or directly to the hotel or restaurant after 5pm. The Canditv solution helps to relieve the pressure on VICs during peak times enabling visitors to service themselves with up-to-date information, ensuring efficient communication channels to present frequently changing and often seasonal information to visitors 24 hours a day. In return the system enables Visit York to learn more about its visitors as it records their contact telephone number and the areas and attractions they were interested in. Information is logged in to a visitor database and used for follow-up purposes and future Direct Marketing campaigns.

Shakespeare Country - Stratford Upon Avon

Shakespeare Country - Stratford Upon Avon

Visitors to Shakespeare Country often overwhelm tourist information centres (TIC) requesting up-to-date information about what to see and do, events and festivals, accommodation availability, prices and so on. This usually results in busy TICs struggling to cope with demand at peak times and not able to offer any services out of office hours. The challenge is how to ensure efficient communication channels to present frequently changing and often seasonal information to tourists 24 hours a day without adding to the pressure on the TICs.

The Canditv solution, introduced across 10 sites by Shakespeare Country, compliments existing services providing an automated, flexible and money saving alternative. The solution enables visitors to quickly access information, which is displayed on screens in strategic outdoor locations, relating to their visit simply by using their own basic mobile phone just like a TV remote to dial a number on a screen and press the keys on their handset to navigate relevant information options, request to be put through to speak to a representative, make a reservation, offer feedback, or request a call-back.

Camelot Plc.

Camelot Plc

Camelot Plc, responsible for over 30,000 National Lottery outlets, deployed Canditv with over 200 remote workers gathering field based data. Simply by dialing a designated telephone number, staff are able to complete a standard questionnaire using the keys on their mobile handset to answer a defined list of questions. Any additional comments not catered for by questions are left as a voice file and automatically translated into text. The process has saved a huge, time consuming and costly keying process whilst simplifying the gathering of data without the need for additional technology.

Alan Ottey, City Centre Manager for Nuneaton & Bedworth, was also quick to realise the cost benefits of Canditv® and having already won the 2009 award for Best Outdoor Street Market could see the unique and simple way that the system would provide information to visitors and local people but also serve as a very simple way to get to know the needs and preferences of people when visiting the town centre of Nuneaton.

Stoke City Football Club

Stoke City FC

Premiership football club Stoke City teamed up with Canditv for the 08/09 season following the introduction of a state of the art 44 square metre screen. Up to a 27,500 capacity crowd are able to take part in games, quizzes and votes simply by dialing the telephone number on the screen and using the keys on their mobile phone handsets to interact. The match versus Liverpool FC in January 09 marked the first time globally that this technology, enabling mass simultaneous supporter participation, was used.

Stoke City Council

Stoke City Council

Stoke on Trent City Council recognised that there was a requirement to extend information services out of hours to citizens and service users and to make the process as simple as possible to encourage local people to have their say and not feel at all excluded from news and information about services and opportunities that may be of interest. This resulted in the situating of a screen next to the entrance of the new Local Centre and conveniently also next to the nearest bus stop.

This screen is already proving itself useful with people dialling to interact from 6.30am until 11pm at night to find out information about jobs, payments and to make enquiries about housing and local transport. The project, which went live in February 2009, recently received a commendation as a Finalist at the Public Sector Good Communication Awards.
